Ullswater
Sunday hike out on the Ullswater way from Pooley Bridge on a fitness test. The plan was to hike to Howtown and get the steamer back to Pooley Bridge.
Weather was lovely, took a few shots along the way and missed the Steamer 12:40 sailing by a couple of minutes. Next boat 15:30..
So plan B - to Howtown Hotel for the Tearoom, except to find the tearoom opens for the season from Weds 27th March...
So plan C. Hike up Hallin Fell, which had definitely not sailed and was open.
This was a bit beyond the fitness test we had planned on. Jess reminded me when we first started running in the lakes she had brought me here and was bloody annoyed when I ran off up the Fell to the summit. At 1200ft it's a baby but the views are spectacular. I have a heart condition now which means it accelerates out of control and leads to cardiac arrest. I have a defibrillator implant and drugs to try to control it but there's only one real way to test if the new drugs work (the old ones didn't) and that's have a go.. So with a steady effort and close eye on my Heartrate we had a go and 45mins later we had made it.
Having survived it I took this shot from the top, first time I tried a panorama. the quality is not the best and shooting into the sun didn't help. 3 shots merged in lightroom. On the right is Ullswater then the valleys , Boredale Hause and Martindale.
Just a case then of heading down for the boat, except a new bus - "The Hopper" came by and we hopped on for £2 each back to Pooley Bridge. Finished off with a pint (Dizzy Blonde) and a pie in the Pooley Bridge Inn.
It's always a good day when a plan comes together...
