Falkirk Kelpies
A Kelpie is is a mythical sea horse, and these statues of "The Kelpies" (by Andy Scott) have been chosen as the icon to represent Falkirk's new public park, The Helix.
For the past few years, these "small" kelpies (1:10 scale maquettes) have been touring Scotland and abroad to publicise the new park. But construction has now started on the full-size version - a full 30m tall, and weighing over 300 tonnes! They will stand at the Eastern end of the Forth and Clyde Canal, and will form a gateway to make the start (or end) of the canal.
It's enough to make me want to take up canal barging!
