Long day's journey into night

Couple walking in Jamison Square Park at twilight on a hot June evening.

Out late, looking for a blip. At another park in the Pearl District, ran into a couple celebrating their sixth wedding anniversary at the spot where they were married. A sweet conversation ensued, and I sent them a copy of my photo.

Lots of missed shots. Ya gotta be quick on the trigger! A young woman in short shorts on six-inch stiletto heels would have been perfect for "uncomfortable walking" but I wasn't ready in time.

In the end, I chose this couple because they tugged at my heartstrings. She, clearly an older woman but still vivacious and full of life. He, stooped, tightly clenching her hand, walking flatfootedly, unsteady on his feet, not seeming to know exactly where he was. He could have been her father, but I suspect he was her husband, suffering from Alzheimer's disease. I chose the black vignette frame to indicate the closing down of options, consciousness, light.

I wish them well on their difficult journey.
