Natan
Apologies for boring photo but I was far too slow in getting my phone when David held up his awesome Natan mask.
Two fabulous moments at EIFF today. First was the brilliant Richard Williams programme followed by an excellent, if too short, Q&A with the legend himself.
But I have to confess that the day ended with the other, higher, highlight... The screening of the wonderful documentary Natan and our penultimate film in our festival film binge this year.
A beautiful film telling a very important story. Anyone with an interest in film history must watch this and make efforts to correct the tragic fact that Bernard Natan's role in the French film industry has been erased and disgraced.
The final revelation about his connection to the great Georges Melies made me instantly well up with tears and it's been a very long time since reading one sentence has made me do that.
A job marvellously done David Cairns and Paul Douane! Definitely up there in my top three out of eighteen films at the festival this year. I wish it all the best as it needs to be seen.
