Twelve Moons

Today's image is an emergency book blip. I bought this book a couple of weeks ago on one of our micro trips to Rochester. I hadn't read a review and I did initially pick it rather at random but it just sounded so intriguing.
It follows the author Caro Giles through a year caught between the wild sea and skies of her Northumberland home, where she lives with what she calls "her tribe of daughters" (she has four!), and the changing moon - it follows the lunar calendar with each chapter sharing a month and a moon.
It is also about her challenges with single motherhood and how she draws strength from the raw beauty of the landscape on her doorstep and the sky above and how the moon is a fellow traveller through both dark times and joyful ones - even when it is obscured by cloud the moon is still there in the pull of the tides. She feels that even in the dark of night we are all under a shared sky.
It's a beautifully written book - lyrical, moving and heartfelt. I can't recommend it highly enough.
