Cappuccino sea foam
A visit to West Shore is always welcome - even though it’s one of those days where the light just isn’t at its best.
The tide is way out so it’s a chance to wander far down on the sands. I’m hoping for some mirror shots, but today my eyes are draw to the gentle ripples of the lapping waves. Further along, the waves leave abstract patterns, a cappuccino froth of creamy white foam mixed with a darker coffee-coloured companion. I think this looks quite beautiful, but appreciate it may appear more sinister! It seems this is a natural phenomenon - either foam created by an algal bloom, or simply sand whipped up by the waves. The former is usually a feature of the warmer months, but perhaps a March appearance is the result of a mild winter and global warming - sinister in itself.
