Sailing through the Forest

Such a lot of trees felled! Some areas that have been tall forest for 60 years are unrecognisable bare hillsides now. Thick dark bits of woodland have been thinned to let in light and air. In other places the last two storms have uprooted trees along the edges of the coups and these have been sawn up with the others and dragged down to the huge log piles. The Sitka will be going for run of the mill fence posts , paper etc. These beautiful Douglas fir have been left as whole trunks and are destined for bespoke building projects and ship's masts.
Although it is quite a shock to see the changes in the views and landscapes, in a couple of year's time all the bare places will be replanted and a new crop of sustainable forest growing to help supply the nation's timber.
