Saltstraumen

In Norway for a week of ski touring, staying at Marvoll near Bodo. Arrived last night, but the forecast was not good for today, rain and cloud from mid-day, so went back into Bodo to get maps and supplies, and visited Saltstraumen, on the way, billed as the largest whirlpool in the world: the original maelstrom.  The tide rips through a 3km channel that is only 150m wide at up to 40 km/hr. It probably wasn't quite that fast today, as we are not quite on a spring tide, but it was still pretty spectacular.  Today's blip was taken from the road bridge over the channel.  The extra is a close-up of one of the eddies, with a tour boat for scale.
