Welcome to Jacob's Ladder

At the junction of New Street and Calton Road there is a hole in the wall with a gate and a sign saying Jacob's Ladder. If you are really desperate to get up to Regent Road then by all means go through but be aware that if you get out of puff bending over to tie your shoe laces then perhaps this is not for you.

The girders you see above the entrance form part of the railway bridge that carries the main East coast line in and out of Waverley Station and you can feel the vibrations as the trains rumble across it.

If you were a Troll you might think it was the Three Billy Goats Gruff making all that noise.
