Wierd Sky

I heard on the radio that the weather conditions were favouring the Helm Wind over the Eden Valley. As we headed south from Hadrian Wall after completing the section west of Birdoswald, on our way to a Mothers Day lunch in a village south of Carlisle,  we saw this extraordinary sky.  I'm wondering if it was caused by the Helm wind. PaulaJ explains what the wind  is here and will hopefully comment on my sky.
