Mothering Sunday 2024

Absent from the line up were the three who got away by dint of living elsewhere. I had expected daughters #1&2 but in the event there had been collusion with daughter #3 and son #2 so that the 4 of them appeared together. I find it faintly worrying that there is a WhatsApp within the family  that I am not party to and have no say in. Goodness knows what is said behind my back, but it was so lovely to see them all at once.
We drank the gin that Jane brought and enjoyed a laugh together, the forfeit for any jokes at my expense being the photo shoot. It just a pity that to get the one where David wasn’t making faces, Jane has her eyes shut. 
They seemed impressed that I had put the heating on so that they could in time discard their coats. I have had radio contact and flowers  from  Lucy in Glasgow, Rosie in Yorkshire and Alasdair in Elgin, so I feel very happy. Even two grandchildren sent messages. 
Mother’s Day is certainly commercialised but if one thinks of it as the old Mothering Sunday when servants got the day off to go home to see their mothers, then I think in this busy world it’s a lovely idea.
