Allotment

I went down through the Olympic Park this morning - the sun was shining and it was a beautiful day. A lady was contentedly tending her allotment in the shadow of the Mittal tower and a huge new university campus building. 

It's brilliant that allotments are sacrosanct and stick a finger up to all development pressures so that people can grow their own veg and stuff. 

Mind you I had one for two years in the '70's. The first year there was a drought so nothing grew. The second year there were floods so that everything rotted. That was enough for me. Now I rely on the supermarket
