Mine!
This mine was previously in position on Montrose High Street. It had been there for many years, however it was looking a bit worse for wear. These mines used to be quite common in seaside towns, but a lot of them have fallen into disrepair and removed.
In order to preserve this mine it was transported to Montrose Air Station to be emptied and cleaned up. Inside, as well as money there was lots of rubbish including cigarettes and take away wrappers.
After being stripped of all the old paint and rust, one of our talented volunteers repainted it. It’s now sitting pretty in the museum, hopefully it’ll continue to collect funds for the Shipwrecked Mariners Society.
