Patiently Awaiting
In mid-January (see Jan 15, 16) one half of this pair had returned from wherever Mourning Doves go and took up residence under the bench in our back yard. We thought it was strange behavior to have a bird just hanging out on the ground and not flying away when I ventured close while gardening. When the partner arrived, they decided to make the bird-feeder outside my office window their new home. (see Feb 17). Mr. Dove got busy foraging for twigs and straw to build their nest. Once the nest was completed, one or the other is alway sitting in the nest. I can't see any eggs from my vantage point, but they take turns keeping the nest warm while the other goes out to eat and exercise. Stay tuned for the egg reveal...which I hope is soon!
