The Clockmaker

Matthew is a very clever and skilled chap, but he doesn't like blowing his own tumpet to he hides his talents firmly under a bushal!

Here he is replacing the balance jewel on a Waltham timer, Admiralty pattern 6 Azdic (sonar) timer, using his newly acquired Seitz jewelling tool.

The timer is from 1943 and would have been used on board a submarine to time the interval between sonar pips, which would determine the distance of the object. It times 6 seconds, which is 5000 yards distance.
