Moulting Seal
Another Seal warden shift on Sunday. I took the opportunity to go a little earlier than my shift start time to take some images with my R6 and 100-500 zoom lens.
We ask the public to keep at least 10m from the seals in order not to frighten or disturb them. Naturally we, as wardens, have to observe the same restrictions. The seals are hauled up on the beach to moult - get rid of their old coats and grow a new, waterproof one. This heavily cropped image shows a young adult female, who spent much time scratching and wriggling on her back to try and sooth the itchiness.
The shift went well, it was busy but cold, and everyone respected the seals and stayed well back.
