Although it doesn't actually run through Darlington, it skirts the edge - and I can get down to it via a 10 minute walk from home. There are a number of issues though, the main ones being that (1) to reach the river one has to navigate a steep and very muddy path, and (2) it's quite ugly at this point, even without the melanges of flood detritus lining the bank as at present...
