The neighbours

Locked out again...?
Feeling better, I went for a short walk in a nearby neighbourhood that is apparently going to be "redeveloped soon" with some government grant money.  This is one more promise in a long series of empty ones, as the extra illustrates. Currently I'd bet on the buddleia to move faster than the developers.
I hope to be wrong; Sheffield has so many neglected areas that are desperate for renovation, and that offer good opportunities for affordable housing. And the cementation furnace that you can see in the extra is of genuine historical interest.  Dating back to the mid-19th century, it was working until 1951. Several other furnaces in the same area had been destroyed in the blitz. More info here:

For now, the furnace, the buddleia and various other eighteenth and nineteenth century buildings sit cheek by jowl with new student accommodation blocks. I often wonder what the smart young East Asian students make of it all, as they walk past expanses of dereliction on their way to the University at the top of the hill.
