Colchester Castle parkrun -a new PB
I last ran this parkrun in the early autumn of 2019. Today it was a wet start, the blip shows the view when we first arrived, but it did brighten up after about 10 mins. We ran the winter course, which was 4 laps passing the castle 4 times and up the incline 4 times. I was delighted that I was able to power up the hill using my arms, and importantly kept going, even though my pace slowed. The downhill sections were a chance to recover so I maintained my heart rate. My official time was 32:32 - 30 seconds off my previous time, so a PB. Well pleased, especially after my cold. The park was beautiful, with not only the castle, but a boating lake and a host of daffodils - very impressive. We had a friendly welcome from the RD and also a lady translating in BSL, very inclusive. There were a good mix of inspirational fast runners as well as walkers and everyone in between. I chatted with a couple who have challenged themselves to walk the entire coast of the UK to raise money for the RNLI. They started in August in Bude and have completed Wales, Scotland and most of the East Coast. You do meet some fab people at parkrun.
Back at home I relaxed and read a Christmas gift book. So far it is excellent..
This evening we watched an incredible evening of athletics on the TV from the Glasgow indoor Athletic Championships. Very entertaining.
