Empty Nest Syndrome

For the last few weeks, there have been some lodgers hanging out in the bird box in the garden. The bluetits started nesting last month and for the last couple of weeks they have been busy fattening up the chicks with a constant supply of worms, caterpillars and flies.

However all went silent yesterday, so I decided to check out the nest to see if the "kids" have left. It was a bit traumatic to say the least. One of the chicks - the small one - didn't make it - and one failed to hatch completely. On the plus side, I think we had at least two or three fledglings which launched yesterday into the world.

The garden is a little bit quieter today though...
