In The Occupied Territory

Who let the dogs out?

Hope that you don't find my journals too wordy and getting bored with them at the moment, but I always try and bring on something different to Blip world now and again. Even if I never make the spotlight, or get zillions of comments. I like the challenge of never, if I can help it, blip the same thing twice, and with my holiday journal, I just wish to share what I can of my experience here in a new country for me. The 33rd country or province or principality I have been to, if you include my own country obviously. Although Dubai was just the airport and Belgium was just a 30 minute cycle ride where the road on the Dutch border cut into the north of that country.
The people here are friendly and quiet spoken, and generally seem eager to please. The hotel staff and in the non tourist places genuinely are always happy to see you. Nothing is too much bother.
We had a very early night last night. At dinner June could hardly keep her eyes open, so she was in bed around ten, and I followed not long after. I reckon that the two ridiculously early mornings, followed by the trip to the zoo, where it was really quite hot, coupled with the numerous bottles of free red wine on offer there, didn't really help the situation. Feeling much more alive today. So maybe we will make it to the beach bar after dinner tonight. Apparently it started opening at night a couple of nights ago.
And so to the beach again.
There are pool people and beach people. We, as you may gather fall into the latter category. We have just discovered this fact on this vacation. I have never in my whole life spent so much time on the beach, despite living in a seaside city. Well the water is a heck of a lot colder at home for one thing. Although as a child/ teenager we did visit the beach quite often if there was so much as a hint of sun during the summer.
But here we find the beach more interesting, much more going on. It is a lot quieter here this second week, with plenty of available loungers around the pool, but after contemplating a change of scenery, we decided to head to the waterfront to watch the world go by, where even the stray dog has it's favourite spot. Our dog, the one that often follows us on our after dinner walk, turned up at the beach this afternoon, to join the other two resident beach dogs, and plunked itself down next this recently arrived young English couple in fact the mutt crawled under on of their sun loungers and even, drat him, allowed them to pet him. Flighty canine it is.
June, who because of an ear problem, is not allowed in the water for fear of infection, managed a little knee deep paddle in the ocean today hoping that the tiny leg cleansing fish might appear. And after staying still for some time they did arrived. Unfortunately the tide was coming in and although not strong, it was too strong or these little aquatic specimens to reach our legs every time they got close, another small ripple came in and swept them back again.
Ah we'll, maybe another day.
As the afternoon wore on, the gentle breeze that permeates the coast occasionally, became a tad stronger, and an unreasonable amount chillier. It was then that we decided to retire to our balcony and pop open the bottle of red wine that our Geordie friends gifted us and just take it easy for a change.
This blip could be subtitled, " Over 50's comparing ailments."
As I cricked my shoulder when gargling with my mouthwash this morning, and Lewis told of the time he did something similar when brushing his teeth. His, though, required a hospital visit. Norma also related that she had suffered the same doing something innocuous in the past.
Ah well, old age doesn't come by itself, as they say.k
