The Changing Face of Princes Street
Princes Street is changing. A small shop like this selling fresh fruit and vegetables would have been most unusual a few years ago, amidst all the large chains, but now there are To Let signs outside vacant units and shops like this one. Like High Streets everywhere it needs to change with the times when so much shopping is done online. Will there be niche independent shops along with the coffee shops, bars and restaurants? Does that depend on rents falling to counter the lack of demand or will landlords hold out for rents that no one wants or can afford to pay, leading to a downward spiral as empty shop fronts makes the street less and less desirable and more and more shops remain empty? The 'market' should react but will it?
