Wide and High
The Torridge Bridge, which carries vehicles on the A39 (Atlantic Highway) was opened in May 1987. It was built to relieve the pressure on the old Bideford Bridge, and the traffic congestion in the town. It is 650m long, 24m high, and there are 8 spans, with 3 piers in the water.
I should imagine back in 1987 it was a delight to drive over on your way to and from the area, but now with the volume of traffic particularly during the Summer months one can experience delays.
A grey day here today, with rain this morning. But has remained dry this afternoon with an outside temperature of 17'C, and me being nice and warm at 22'C here in the study :-)
