It’s a mystery

When I was in the park on Saturday looking at the lanterns, I noticed that someone had left these flowers amongst them.
The lanterns have gone now but the flowers remain, slowly fading away apart from the beautiful blue sea holly ( eryngium ).
I’d love to know the story behind this, but I don’t suppose I ever will.
