Wray Castle
With heavy rain lashing against the windows, it's on days like this that you reach for the National Trust book to find somewhere to visit.
Wray Castle is situated on the Western side of Lake Windermere a couple of miles from Ambleside. We've never been here before. The building is extremely imposing. There isn't a lot to see inside but there was a very interesting photo exhibition of work by Rupert Potter. He was the father of better known Beatrix but was a talented photographer in his own right. The Potter family used to spend their holidays in the area, including at Wray Castle. A lot of the photos showed a teenaged Beatrix with her family at various locations in The Lake District. It was very interesting.
We had a very wet walk down to the boathouse (see extra)
