Quiet joy
River Coombe, an old bridge across the river and St Peter’s Church - patron saint of fishermen of course. And more scaffolding. Across the road from here.
Rain on and off all day, but I’m very grateful that this was so, as otherwise we would not have gone to the cinema again this afternoon and seen a remarkable film - Perfect Days.
A beautiful film where the fact that nothing happens is really the whole point. A man cleans Tokyo’s toilets and takes pride in doing a good job. He has a routine, lives lightly in the world, takes time to stop and appreciate perfection in tiny details, tries to capture natural beauty in a photograph and is periodically troubled by old ghosts. A superb performance by Kōji Yakusho - mesmerising. A gentle, uplifting film we both really enjoyed.
We then went to the restaurant for another lovely meal and walked home in the rain - only a few minutes so it was fine.
Extra - A good policy for a cinema to have!
