FLOCK OF TWITES

After a good lie-in this morning I pottered about, managed to retrieve all but the last month's worth of lost WhatsApp messages, took B out for a short drive and then went down smelly factory road for some fresh air this afternoon. I didn't stay long because it was particularly smelly today and the paths were very muddy, but the birds weren't put off. Here's a small section of one of the flocks of twites that were flying about. Extras are an egret and a redshank picking their way through one of the flooded fields, and a fieldfare which was in another field with a flock of its pals. Lots of other birds too, including a short-eared owl hunting across the fields. I failed to get a photo but just enjoyed watching it with its wings backlit by the lowering sun. You'll have to imagine it.
