Orkney Sundown

The one thing I am never tired of is telling folk about the high quality care my mother receives in the Smiddybrae Care Home.  Today they hosted a ‘1950s’ theme tea, in the afternoon.  What a tremendous effort.  It turned out to be a real leveller though.  A young woman, who I failed to recognise, came and sat at our table.  She was with her folk – the Kennedys.  Talk about heartbreak.  They used to attend the dancing in Stromness and were really good dancers.  Sarah, their daughter, had moved in with both of them as they both have dementia.  Sadly her father has spent six months in hospital but now has a place in Smiddybrae.  It was his second day.  She brought in her Mum, Liz, to visit her husband.  Who she failed to recognise.  Sarah was really tearful when she left as her folk have never been apart before.

Back at HQ it has been a good day with overhaul of the second perennial border and steady progress with the polycrub.  We have had a really beautiful day.  CMC is currently away providing catering services to the 12 hour marathon musical fund raiser in the Kirkwall Stoneworks.  CMC advises me that all the music is watchable on Facebook at Friends of Stoneworks Orkney.
