A diver and a dabbler
My husband noticed a report of a Ring-necked duck being sighted on our local loch so I went for a walk this afternoon to see if I could spot it. They are similar to Tufted ducks but much rarer. The bird at the top of my blip was by itself and some distance away from a group of tufted ducks (divers), so I thought I was maybe in luck but looking at the photos when I got home I’m sure it is a Tufted duck. The lower half of the photo is of course a male mallard (dabblers), with its beautiful metallic green head.
