100 Year Old Japanese Thread Leaf Maples

at Harkness Memorial State Park

Gram and I traveled to the coast to spend the day at Harkness today.
A beautiful park it contains a little bit of everything. Its located on Long Island Sound and has a very pretty little beach. There is also a very nice path mowed into the tall grasses which travels to a bird blind and salt water tidal area. Its a great place for a picnic with large grassy areas and lots of big old trees. There is also an extensive garden which is very beautiful now thanks to the work of volunteers.

The grounds used to belong to one family and their mansion and carriage house are another attraction.

These trees were absolutely beautiful. About they were growing together in the small garden near the carriage house. You could go underneath the leaves which formed a leafy dome over your head - the perfect fairy house.
