The lure of the kipper

After yesterday’s pâté making, in order to avoid fishy smells it’s kitchen bin, I put the fish heads, skin and bones in a compostable bag and placed them inside the compost bin.

It normally sits nestled in on a ledge by the front gate, just to the right of where this photo was taken.

I was surprised this morning to find the bin across the front garden, lying on its side with the empty bag beside it. The fox - which is what I presume did this - had clearly been so attracted by the kipper aroma that it had dragged the box across through the roses and plants and somehow shifted the bar which is meant to keep everything locked away.

While the bin had nothing else in it and was therefore lighter than usual it was still no mean feat.
