Mima's World

By SheilaJellison

SO, it's cloudy again here today with some heavy rain on the way.  The workmen were here today doing more demo of the seawall cap.  I thought this was a good time to explain what the process is here with reinforcing the seawall.  First of all, we have NO RECORD of when this seawall was originally installed but do know the dock was built in 1989.  Neighbors on either side have had their seawalls reinforced so we knew it was getting close to the time we needed to do the same (pockets of erosion where water was getting past the seawall).  The wavy 18 foot tall  interlocking material is pounded down into the ground to be level with the top of the current seawall.  Then the old seawall is jackhammered away.  When that is completed, concrete will be poured between the new material and the old seawall and then a new seawall cap will be installed.  The guys told me this process would be three weeks.  Yesterday was three weeks and you see where we are!  I'll keep you updated on the progress because this is also a good way for me to monitor the process.
Happy Saturday!
