1963: The Feminine Mystique by Betty Friedan is published
Quote Of The Day
"Men weren't the real enemy, they were fellow victims suffering from an outmoded masculine mystique that made them feel unnecessarily inadequate when there were no bears to kill."
(Betty Friedan)
Long before Emma Watson said much the same thing in her insightful speech at the U.N., and long before the term "toxic masculinity" entered the popular lexicon, Betty Friedan was well aware that in order to empower women, men must also be freed from outmoded ideas of masculinity that make victims of both men and women.
"Muscle and hate!"
