In Transit!
Just uploading my blip at Stafford Services Southbound on the M6.
We had a smooth journey up to Lancashire to see Heidi. I drove halfway and then we changed over.
So lovely to have her back in the UK for good. We went out for lunch to celebrate her birthday (which was yesterday) and then on to Astley Park, which we will no doubt visit again.
We spent most of the time in the lovely Coffee Shop just talking and talking. Catching up.
The house and grounds are lovely but it wasn’t the day to wander round.
After which we took her back to her Aunt and Uncle’s house, where she is staying until the purchase of her own house completes.
Good to see them again too!
We’ve only seen them twice previously The first time on Heidi’s wedding day in November 2000 to our Matt, when she stayed with them just before her wedding. I well remember we drove up the M6 with the Wedding cake in the back of the car! Up to that point she had been living with us for about a year. Matt was in a house share with 3 other lads during his first couple of years in his first job since Uni.
Once we arrived she asked me to iron her wedding dress!!
No-one else would dare attempt it! Anyway I took a deep breath and a damp cloth to smooth out some creases and wrinkles.
The second time we met her Aunt and Uncle was 6 years later at Matt’s funeral. He was just 30 years old and Heidi 28.
Since then she moved to the States in 2011 having met her second husband in the UK. He being American from Dallas.
Sadly in 2021 he chose to divorce her so that came to an end.
Her resilience is remarkable and we both hope that the next few years will be a time of rebuilding and healing.
I’m writing at the Services before we make the last part of our journey.
After which a rest will be in order!
I’ll be a bit behind with comments right now. But I will catch up.
Good to drive into Lancashire again.
Once a Lancastrian, always a Lancastrian, in my book!
Photos of me and Stephen with Heidi.
