Alaska History I
Today I visited a little historical area that I have probably driven past 1000 times (no lie) but never stopped. Oil was first discovered in Alaska here on the Kenai Peninsula in the late 50's. In the late 60's oil was discovered on what we call the North Slope, which is in the far northern part of Alaska.
The building of the Alaska oil pipeline that carries the oil from the Slope to Valdez followed. The Homesteader's Historical Museum houses many interesting items, so I'll go back for more photos.
This photo shows one style of drill bit and a section of the pipeline is visible among the flower leaves.
