Antlers

When the lodge
was destroyed by fire in 1895
The recollection is
that the first order was
to save the antler collection
The new lodge burned in 1991,
But every one
of 2435 red deer stag heads remain
in the ballroom,
an antler tomb
To old glory days
I looked at those faded deer heads
Trophy plates around
their necks
Their serene and soft eyes
And I cried.
