Stuff and Nonsense

Jack Snipe #26

A great day on the Wirral for high tide in beautiful sunshine most of the time. We started with a walk up to see the Little Owl at Burton Marsh, and then headed over to Parkgate for the highest tide of the month. It's always a toss up as to whether the tide will reach the wall and bring out the critters or not. Today it rushed in with some speed and soon it was a real frenzy of birds all out for an easy meal (see extras).
But the real star of the show today for me was the Jack Snipe that stayed perfectly still on a clump of earth about 15 yards from the wall. I've never seen one before so it was a real thrill to not only catch a glimpse but actually get a photograph of it.

After a lovely lunch at the Boathouse, we went over to the Harp Inn for a quick look to see if there were any owls flying. Sadly we didn't see any this time, and had to leave before dusk. We did, however, see an unfortunate couple of cars who were caught out by the high tide - kwchas has blipped them. Whilst we were there, an AA van arrived, but they would have been better off calling the RNLI!!! I'm guessing they were not locals......an expensive day out I imagine.

Really nice to catch up with villan again and have a good chat.
