Time travelling

At the end of the day I took a train to Waterloo. It was cold outside and I was running late so I hopped on the Bakerloo Line with the intention of getting of at Piccadilly Circus to walk to Shaftesbury Avenue to meet PY.  Because of a broken down train ahead of us, and not wanting to risk getting stuck in tunnels, I changed at Embankment for the Northern Line and walked from Leicester Square.  We met outside the Apollo where we were going to see The Time Traveller’s Wife.

One of the performers that we have seen at The Crazy Coqs is Alex Lodge.  This week he is playing the lead role and we thought it would be interesting to see him in something on big stage rathe than in the small room at the cabaret. Although a lot of the singers we see have been in - or are in - West End shows, we have never seen most of them in a theatre and this was the opportunity to do it.

We both agreed he was very good and the staged effects for the time travelling bits were really well done. But the staging outperformed the songs and I am not sure that’s the way a musical should be remembered.  As we were walking back to Waterloo, we realised that we couldn’t hum any of the songs. Sadly, I can see why it might be closing.  It’s a shame as everybody raves about the books.
