SHELTERING SANDERLING
There were lots of birds huddled together among the rocks just before high tide. There's been a warning the last few days about possible floods at high tide along the coast from here down to Staithes as the tide has been particularly high, helped by strong easterly winds (see yesterday). Ten minutes after I took this the waves had washed over the sea defence blocks where the birds were sheltering and they'd all flown off somewhere else. As far as I know, we haven't had flooding although when I was walking around the Headland yesterday there was a lot of debris that had been washed up quite a bit higher than usual, nearly onto some doorsteps.
