Comfortable together?

Moss growing on maple? tree bark, Dishman Community Center on NE Knott.

There are several of these trees next to the building with varying degrees of moss. This is the south side of the tree. I thought moss grew on the north side, but as you have probably already discovered I am no botanist.

As best I can determine, moss is not harmful to trees. This tree appears healthy and is in full leaf, so I imagine moss and tree are comfortable together. The moss looks pretty happy as well.
