Church Matters

When the Normans had consolidated their position in South Wales with castle strongholds they turned their attention to building churches, often on the positions of older religious sites belonging to the Celts.
The Church of the Holy Trinity, Marcross was completed in the 12 century and still shows the rectangular shape which is typically Norman and which now forms the present central section,the Nave. Later, in the fourteenth century the Church was extended and a smaller , rectangular Chancel, and the tower, with it's gabled or " saddle-back" roof were added.
The porch is much more recent probably being extended in the 17th ot 18th century to give extra protection against the weather and this was re-roofed between 1850 to 1870.
