Light HEARTed
Following on from yesterday’s photo our son and I went to St Giles for the “son et lumière” show. This past week or so has been the UK premiere of the installation by Michael Pendry, a German sculptor. Indeed the display x 5 metres tall - is described as a sculpture. Tomorrow is its last day.
It is an event in collaboration with “Burns&Beyond” and “St Giles’ 900th” and is, I believe, the first of a series of events throughout the year to mark the 900th anniversary of the founding of the cathedral.
It was a very calming event (needed after the tense last minutes of the rugby international) with electronic sound and music, dripping water, birdsong and choral voices. All the while the heart changed colour from red to yellow and many other shades with, at times, some of the horizontal and vertical lines lit up separately.
Overall a very enjoyable experience.
Just to the left a statue of John Knox looked on, no doubt in disapproval! It’s a bit dark but see extra.
