Matariki sunrise

Today is the Maori New Year. It's known as Matariki. This is also the Maori name for the star constellation Pleiades, which can be seen rising just before dawn at this time of the year and is very significant to Maori people.

Unfortunately, it was too cloudy this morning to see Matariki, but we still had a celebration hangi at school!
