Ramparts
This morning we had a very wet and muddy walk across the partially flooded Onny meadows and up to Norton Camp, the Iron Age hillfort that overlooks Craven Arms. The interior enclosure is vast (17 acres apparently) and it is surround by sheer limestone cliffs to the northwest and two massive banks and ditches on the other sides. Never before have I seen ramparts as impressive as these and yet from a few hundred metres away you wouldn't know it was there. The whole structure is obscured by trees and scrub. And, I spotted my first scarlet elf cups in this part of the country.
