Gold robbers

Last year our local post box was painted gold to celebrate the Olympic Gold medal won by Nick Skelton in the show jumping. His house and stables are in the hills just behind our house.

Today, I spotted these two workmen stripping the gold paint off the post box. I assumed that it was to revert to it's original red colour after a year but no, they tell me that they are going to paint it gold again.

Considering the fact that it was still looking very smart and gleaming before they got to work on it, it's surprising that it is considered a financial priority to repaint it when it doesnt need it.

Still - it's good to know that the fine I had to pay for the privilege of being sent a legally forwarded letter the other day is being put to good use ;-)
