Boroughloch Brewery

I braced myself for another run around the Meadows in the wind and rain today!

The site of Boroughloch Brewery is just off the Meadows close to the tennis courts.  Edinburgh has a long list of breweries from the 18th and 19th centuries that no longer exist. The Boroughloch was set up around 1798 and by the 1860s was the fifth largest brewers in Scotland. But by 1907 brewing had ceased on the site when the trade and goodwill was acquired by McEwans.  By 1916 the site had been converted to housing.
