Another Trig Bagged
Last year I bought Mr C the Northumbria trig bagging book but he wasn’t that interested - till I started doing them with Katy. Today he wanted to do an 8 mile walk incorporating Garleigh Moor trig so off we set.
A bit like some Corbetts there are rarely paths to them so we parked at Lordenshaws then went round the side of a hill before plodging through wet bog. Then it was high heather to the top.
The views were great - the hill is across the valley from our house which was visible (on the left of the blip with the trig on the right) as was the Border ridge in NW and the sea in SE. The aim was then to head towards the cup and ring stone and downhill to Whitton Dene, and on up to Whitton Hillhead to the road and steeply up the hill to the car park.
However I was overcome with the occasional ocular disturbances (zigzag lights) I sometimes get. (Not significant of any problem the eye hospital said). Usually I sit down with my eyes shut and it goes in a few minutes but “we” decided it was better to carry on. It got worse so I said I’d sit on a stone and if it was not gone in 5 minutes I wanted to go back. That’s what we did and of course by the time we got to the car it had gone. Typical. At least we got home before the rain and high winds.
My DNA results are back. No surprises there. 68% Lowland Scottish, 28% Northumbrian, 2% Irish and 2% Icelandic/Norse. Practically inbred. I expect the daughters are more Scottish than I as Mr C’s Dad and ancestors came from Islay and his Mum’s Lowland Scottish. At least Nathaniel will be pleased with the 2% Norse, given that he wanted to join Cubs as a Viking god. (It wasn’t on the list of religions so he settled for Buddhist).
