On Some Days

Call Any Vegetable . . . Frank Zappa

The community garden as we call it is between our driveway and the access way to further houses and the hill track.  The forester has planted Kamo Kamo and they are scrambling down the curb.  Kamo Kamo are a summer squash and are commonly used in Maori cuisine.  They were introduced by Europeans and replaced calabash as  a food source.  Our neighbours are not familar with them so I don't know what we will do with the surplus.  The little girls are from next door and are riding their electric bikes up and down.  I will refrain from making a grumpy old lady comment about children needing electric powered bikes.
Tomorrow we leave for four or five nights camping.  The forecast is for fine weather so that's a good start.  No electricity, limited cell phone coverage so I will take my transistor radio and books.  If we are allowed to have a camp fire I have a large bag of marshmallows for toasting.  Getting back to basics is good, I think.   Catch up at the end of the week.
