Kennet Goes Over The Top

Fairly grey but warm day, so after the gym I made my way to the River Kennet, joining it at Aldermaston Wharf and heading Westwards. This part is canalised, although also doing a good impression of a flood plain as well. I went about 15 miles along the towpath before retracing my steps. Despite the featureless sky, the shapes and colours were lovely. Being grey and a six nations day, I didn't encounter many people so it made for a relatively clear path. There was a nice friendly buzz in Newbury but elsewhere quiet apart from brief hellos to narrowboat residents as they relaxed or collected some firewood from the area.

Luckily I spotted a sign that the Newbury Canoe Club have a race tomorrow, so all being well I'll venture out to see them compete. Sometimes making a snap decision (to hit the towpath rather than the road) rewards with another pleasant surprise as well :-)

Extras are other snaps from along the route, just general descriptors and memory prompts for the future. Map location is +- a mile or so.
