Finnieston

The crane is 165ft tall with a 77 metre cantilever jib and had a lifting capacity of 175 tons - impressive! My uncle worked on these cranes for many years. The one in this picture is now called the Finnieston Crane and it is the last symbol of Glasgows engineering heritage.

The crane actually sat on the site of the hotel alongside it. Fortunately there are still wonderful photographs of the cranes and workers from long ago inside the hotel.

I crossed the Squinty Bridge (Clyde Arc) to take my picture. It connects Finnieston Street on the north to Govan road on the south.

Stayed in the hotel after a day at the Royal Highland Show in Edinburgh.
